1KOMMA5° is increasing the amount covered by its electricity price guarantee from 2,000 kWh to 10,000 kWh per year in order to better address customers with heat pumps and electric cars.
The guaranteed price per kWh will be reduced from 15 cents per kWh to an annual average of 10 cents, based on improved results in the optimization of Heartbeat AI.
Also, 1KOMMA5° is expanding the smart meter rollout in Germany, as the planned legal right to a smart meter for households with less than 10,000 kWh consumption per year is in question.
The price guarantee applies to the total electricity produced and consumed by households that purchase a compatible 1KOMMA5° solar system and use Heartbeat AI, including 1KOMMA5°'s dynamic tariff.
Hamburg, Germany – Nov 5, 2024 – 1KOMMA5°, the new energy company from Hamburg, is introducing an improved electricity price guarantee for its artificial intelligence Heartbeat AI of a maximum of 10 cents per kWh on an annual average, instead of the previous 15 cents. The company is thus further minimizing the cost risks for consumers and is already passing on the benefits of the increasingly dynamic development of the electricity market to German households. The cost cap offers security for homeowners who want to operate their building with a solar system and battery, or combine them with other components such as a heat pump or electric car charging station. In comparison, the cost of conventional electricity with pure grid supply in a fixed tariff is around 35 cents per kWh.
“We want to make it even simpler and safer. That's why we no longer differentiate between grid consumption, income from selling, or self-generated electricity, but combine all of this into one holistic price, our Heartbeat price,” explains Philipp Schröder, CEO and co-founder of 1KOMMA5°. “One in three users of Heartbeat AI already had more income than expenses in the period from the beginning of May to the end of August and therefore effectively had no more costs for electricity usage. However, prices are already rising again in the fall and winter. From January, we expect an additional reduction for the first time, as dynamic grid fees have a greater influence on pricing than the price on the electricity exchange itself. In any case, the results vary greatly depending on individual equipment and consumption behavior, which is why the new guarantee is all the more important for our customers.” The more systems in the household that are optimized with Heartbeat AI, the better the result.

The new price guarantee covers a household's entire electricity consumption (grid supply and self-consumption) up to an annual consumption of 10,000 kWh, which is more than twice the amount of electricity that an average single-family home in Germany currently requires. The guarantee applies in combination with a 1KOMMA5° solar system and an electricity storage system optimized for the electricity exchange, both of which are compatible with Heartbeat AI. In addition to grid charges, it also includes VAT and taxes as well as the investment costs of the solar system.
The guarantee fluctuates along three price levels of 10, 12 and 14 cents per kWh, depending on the local grid charges. “These levels already greatly simplify the complexity of over 800 grid operators and grid charges that can sometimes even vary by house number,” adds Jannik Schall, Head of Product and Co-Founder of 1KOMMA5°.
The new guarantee covers the costs for the entire electricity requirement, not just the costs for the remaining grid electricity purchase
“Due to complex regulations on dynamic grid fees, dynamic prices on the electricity exchange and individual yields from their own solar system, it is becoming increasingly difficult for customers to calculate their own actual electricity price. Many suppliers only offer a dynamic electricity tariff, sometimes even without a smart meter, which offers significantly fewer benefits without optimization. The price risk of actual savings remains solely with the customer. Other providers, on the other hand, only offer a solar system or heat pump individually, without having any influence on the electricity supply and therefore the operating costs. 1KOMMA5° is the first and currently the only provider to take full responsibility for the entire process and its actual success,” explains Barbara Wittenberg, Global CTO of 1KOMMA5°.
“Intraday optimization and variable grid charges are just two other topics that will further increase the benefits for customers with the help of Heartbeat AI and can be easily installed via a software update,” says Wittenberg. “This will allow us to make even more flexible adjustments, relieve even more pressure on the grid and balance electricity demand and supply in real time.”
1KOMMA5° has already installed over 300,000 controllable energy systems such as solar, electricity storage, heat pumps and wallboxes at customers' homes worldwide and began optimizing them using Heartbeat AI in 2023. The artificial intelligence is currently optimizing 35,000 systems in Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark. After the legal right to a smart meter was politically questioned, 1KOMMA5° announced that it would fill the gap for customers and install a total of 500,000 smart meters free of charge for German households.

1KOMMA5° operates the "Heartbeat AI" energy software platform controlled by artificial intelligence, creating a virtual power plant that networks customers' photovoltaic systems, electricity storage units, heat pumps and charging stations with the energy market and controls them in time with the sun and wind. This significantly increases the efficiency of customers' systems. As a one-stop shop, the company also offers private and commercial customers the purchase and installation of individual and intelligent energy system solutions. 1KOMMA5° currently operates 75 locations with around 2,200 employees in Germany, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Spain, the Netherlands and Australia. To accelerate its international growth, the CleanTech start-up acquires leading companies in the electrical and heating sector with a focus on photovoltaics, storage, charging infrastructure and heat pumps and in return offers the companies the use of its own software solutions, centralized services, bundled purchasing, growth capital and a return investment in 1KOMMA5°. In less than three years since its foundation, 1KOMMA5° has developed into the leading hardware and software platform in Europe. The aim is to convert 500,000 buildings a year to climate-neutral power generation, heating and mobility by 2030.
