  • With the PowerHarvester, 1KOMMA5° is presenting the first energy storage system for private households that is designed exclusively to optimize flexible electricity prices on the electricity market and can be operated without a solar system.

  • The company thus enables households in Germany to reduce the electricity price per kWh by up to 50 percent: Heartbeat AI, 1KOMMA5°'s artificial intelligence, purchases electricity when it is cheap and uses or sells it when the electricity price is high. Until now, Heartbeat AI was reserved exclusively for customers who had also purchased a 1KOMMA5° solar system.

  • This move marks a first in the energy sector: the aim is to store the surplus electricity from renewables in Germany, which is currently being sold abroad at a loss, and allow consumers to benefit directly from the low prices. At the same time, this reduces the load on the electricity grid and thus on the general public.

  • The battery is compatible with all existing solar systems, inverter types and all heat pumps currently available on the German market.

Berlin, Germany – Apr 15, 2025 With the PowerHarvester, 1KOMMA5° is presenting the first energy storage system that enables households in Germany to directly benefit from negative electricity market prices in the long term, bypassing traditional utility companies. The move is a first in the energy sector: no other company in Germany has yet offered a fully integrated storage solution with intelligent control for households that do not have their own electricity production.

Philipp Schröder, CEO and Co-Founder of 1KOMMA5°, says: "Currently, Germany regularly gives away surplus clean electricity from wind and solar to other countries. We then later repurchase electricity at high prices when the sun and wind are not available. This is economic madness. With the PowerHarvester battery, we are now enabling all electricity customers to benefit directly from this surplus energy and become part of the permanent solution to this problem. The PowerHarvester, controlled by Heartbeat AI, buys electricity fully automatically whenever the price on the electricity market is particularly low, and later either supplies it to the customer or sells it when prices are high. Based on data from nearly 50,000 energy systems, we can reduce electricity costs per kWh by up to 50 percent."

For customers with an annual electricity consumption of over 10,000 kWh, the investment can pay for itself in just six years. The purchase is therefore particularly worthwhile for households that already have large consumers connected, such as a heat pump or an electric vehicle. These figures could improve even further due to planned changes in grid charges and legal flexibilization.

"Our PowerHarvester battery is groundbreaking in several ways: First, Heartbeat AI ensures immediate compatibility with all existing inverters, charging solutions, and heat pumps through digital measurement technology. Second, for the first time, homeowners without a solar system—and even tenants—can directly benefit from particularly cheap electricity from the sun and wind on the electricity market. Third, surplus electricity remains in Germany and is no longer given away to other countries; the electricity grid is stabilized. Fourth, retrofitting the new type of battery to existing solar systems avoids feed-in tariffs that would otherwise result in high costs for the general public," explains Philipp Schröder.

The 1KOMMA5° PowerHarvester Battery

1KOMMA5° had already announced in 2024 that it would invest more than 100 million euros in Heartbeat AI with the aim of being able to integrate all heat pumps, charging points and solar systems in its portfolio. Until now, the use of Heartbeat AI was limited to a select number of compatible manufacturers. The new battery now removes this limitation.

"The real problem with the energy transition is not the cheap electricity produced by wind and solar power, but a rigid grid without smart meters and enough storage capacity. The PowerHarvester is our answer to this problem, and at the same time, it demonstrates that very cheap and clean electricity is already available. Instead of subsidizing the old, inflexible energy system with billions, politicians should focus on promoting full flexibility, the smart meter rollout, and also exempting small energy storage systems from grid charges, which would significantly improve economic efficiency," adds Jannik Schall, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer at 1KOMMA5°.

The 1KOMMA5° PowerHarvester battery is offered from EUR 8,900 RRP including installation, Heartbeat AI and the installation of the required smart meter. Customers pay a monthly software fee of EUR 9.90 for the Energy Trader function and must take out the Dynamic Pulse electricity tariff from 1KOMMA5°.

1KOMMA5° has already installed over 300,000 controllable energy systems such as solar systems, energy storage units, heat pumps and wallboxes for customers worldwide. Instead of charging margins on electricity as an energy supplier, 1KOMMA5° charges a flat-rate software fee for Heartbeat AI and thus enables dynamic and individual electricity prices in real time instead of conventional static tariffs.
