  • Following the product announcement in May, the 1KOMMA5° energy storage system and inverters are now being delivered to customers in Germany.

  • The market launch in several European countries and Australia is planned by the end of the year.

  • The energy storage systems are designed for the integration of AI-based energy management to enable new business models on the energy market.

  • Fast response times and high data resolution make it suitable for grid-stabilizing measures and intra-day trading.

Hamburg, Germany – Oct 7, 2024 1KOMMA5°, the Hamburg-based New Energy company, is launching its own energy storage system and inverters that are designed to meet the challenges of the changing energy market. As announced at the product launch in May 2024, the delivery of the 1KOMMA5° energy storage system and inverter has already started in Germany. 1KOMMA5° is thus expanding its product portfolio with two core components under its own brand. Customers in Europe and Australia will benefit from AI-driven optimization on the energy market (day-ahead and intra-day) and additional income from grid services.

“‘Our energy system is transforming radically and we’re facing new requirements for hardware along the value chain,” says Jannik Schall, CPO and co-founder of 1KOMMA5°, explaining the company's commitment to hardware. “Therefore, 1KOMMA5° is investing heavily in developing the components that are required in a world of New Energy.” The battery plays a central role in flexibilization: on the one hand, it enables cheap and clean electricity to be temporarily stored for later use, and on the other hand, it can be used to actively trade electricity on various energy markets or to stabilize the power grid.”

“‘Up until now, batteries have primarily had one task: to absorb surplus solar power during summer days and release it again in the evening. However, we use them in a variety of ways and throughout the year to increase and generate savings for our customers,” explains Schall. The decisive factor is the control of the components and the data flow between them: “The secret sauce of our 1KOMMA5° storage system is the deep integration of the Heartbeat AI platform into the software.” 1KOMMA5° is already optimizing the interaction between electricity generators, directly via the photovoltaic system or indirectly via the electricity exchange, and electricity consumption, for example via heat pumps or EV chargers, in four countries, using the in-house energy platform Heartbeat AI.

Storage systems face particular challenges in this field of application: instead of traditional charging cycles, future storage systems will run through several so-called microcycles during the course of the day - for example in response to market signals. That’s why  software development has focused primarily on providing high data resolution and fast response times. In addition to the integration into the so-called day-ahead market, 1KOMMA5° primarily aims at grid-stabilizing measures, which the company is currently developing in Sweden and Denmark, as well as trading on the intra-day market. These areas of application will give users access to new savings and sources of revenue in the future.

“What has become known as New Energy refers to an energy system in which producers - directly or indirectly via the electricity exchange - and consumers communicate with each other and are interconnected, fully automatically. This is the only way to ensure that cheap and clean electricity is efficiently delivered to where it is needed,” says Philipp Schröder, CEO and co-founder of 1KOMMA5°.

The market launch will be extended to other European markets and Australia in the coming months. In Germany alone, over one million operators of solar systems without electricity storage could upgrade to the 1KOMMA5° battery to become part of the Heartbeat AI energy platform and benefit from the Dynamic Pulse electricity tariff.

About 1KOMMA5°

1KOMMA5° operates the "Heartbeat AI" energy software platform controlled by artificial intelligence, creating a virtual power plant that networks customers' photovoltaic systems, electricity storage units, heat pumps and charging stations with the energy market and controls them in time with the sun and wind. This significantly increases the efficiency of customers' systems. As a one-stop shop, the company also offers private and commercial customers the purchase and installation of individual and intelligent energy system solutions. 1KOMMA5° currently operates 75 locations with around 2,200 employees in Germany, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Spain, the Netherlands and Australia. To accelerate its international growth, the CleanTech start-up acquires leading companies in the electrical and heating sector with a focus on photovoltaics, storage, charging infrastructure and heat pumps and in return offers the companies the use of its own software solutions, centralized services, bundled purchasing, growth capital and a return investment in 1KOMMA5°. In less than three years since its foundation, 1KOMMA5° has developed into the leading hardware and software platform in Europe. The aim is to convert 500,000 buildings a year to climate-neutral power generation, heating and mobility by 2030.
