Our household energy usage is pretty standard. My wife and I work full time and our energy needs are attributable to regular household appliances and day to day usage.

Getting Solar

We got solar a little over four years ago. We then decided to get a battery installed with 1KOMMA5° about a year ago, and have essentially been in credit ever since. 

Our decision to get solar was based on a mix of financial and environmental reasons.

Before we had the battery installed, no one was home during the day and we were generating all of this solar energy and it wasn’t going anywhere. Then we came home and wanted to use that energy, but there was no sun. So we felt like there wasn’t much point in having solar at that point. 

That’s what kicked off looking into getting a battery so we could store whatever we generated during the day, and then give back to the grid when needed. 

I set out conducting my research mainly on Google and across forums which took a few weeks. I wanted to request quotes from as many providers as possible.

When deciding which provider to go with, we were really impressed with Martin from the 1KOMMA5° team. He came into our home, was pretty old school in his approach, honest, not pushy whatsoever and gave us the information we needed. He was really great to work with.

I’m really proud of our set up - both how it works and how it looks. I talk about it to my colleagues all the time - many have ended up looking into similar systems.

The Benefits

A big thing for us that was explained by the 1KOMMA5° team initially, is that having solar can help alleviate energy costs for others by reducing demand on the grid - especially during peak times. 

I also really like being able to have the visibility and control of our energy usage, and the cost savings that come from that.

Do your research, find salespeople that are honest with you and try to find a good deal.
